Michael Serafini

DJ Michael Serafini came up in an Italian family on Chicago’s South Side. Growing up in Bridgeport, and later near Midway, he always knew something about him was a little different. In his late teens, as he began to explore Chicago’s North Side clubs and bars, he came out. Ever since he has integrated his experiences dancing to disco and house music with his identity as a gay man. Serafini was a regular dancer at Medusa’s, Shelter, and Red Dog and later DJ’d at Berlin and the infamous Boom Boom Room when it moved to Green Dolphin. Before taking over as the owner of Chicago’s infamous Gramaphone Records, Serafini worked there as a clerk and record buyer. He currently acts as host and resident DJ at Smart Bar’s Sunday Queen! party.
