The Clubhouse
440 North Halsted
After Club LaRay closed, Bob Yeaworth and the late Sam Davis opened The Clubhouse to fill the gap left in Chicago’s Black, gay house music scene. Yeaworth and Davis always believed that their project extended La Ray’s legacy; they even incorporated the bar’s drag host Tasha Thomas and legendary disco DJ, Michael Ezebukwu, explicitly acknowledging the continuity in the scene even as things continued to shift and change with the gentrification of Boystown. The Clubhouse also helped break global house music stars like Cajmere and Ron Carroll.
