(The) Shrine

2109 South Wabash Ave.

Opened in 2009 by Joe Russo, of Funky Buddha Lounge and Sinibar fame, The Shrine had one of the best sound systems in Chicago clubland. The club featured Terry Hunter and Greg Winfield’s Sunday house music residency, Bang! – its decor imagined a connection to Fela Kuti’s famed Lagos night spot of the same name.
