Syd Hoff

Syd Hoff was born and raised in New York City. He studied at the National Academy of Design and sold his first cartoon to The New Yorker when he was eighteen. He enjoyed a successful career as a cartoonist for many publications and King Features Syndicate. In his forties Hoff became one of the most original and beloved authors and illustrators of children’s books.  While living in Miami Beach, Florida, he wrote more than fifty books for children, including the HarperCollins I Can Read titles Danny and the DinosaurSammy the Seal, Grizzwold, and Stanley. Other notable work includes the Henrietta series, a number of juvenile biographies, Duncan the Dancing Duck and a 400-page book on political cartooning.
