Ben Eine

Ben Eine began his artistic career in London, where he taught himself in his early work of illegal street art. Eventually, his art became popular enough that he began selling independent pieces and doing mural work for cities and commercial interests. A major name today in the European street art world, one of his pieces was gifted by former United Kingdoms Prime Minister David Cameron to President Obama.

Suenos Revolucionarios

Ben Eine's Suenos Revolucionarios (Revolutionary Dreams) features highly stylized British pop art words sitting on top of a solid black backdrop accented with beige and purple triangle patterns. The work itself was made as part of a mural tour Eine did in 2015, which spanned from Laguna Beach to Los Angeles. During said tour, Eine created murals in each city he stopped at, with the goal of representing the atmosphere of the city. Suenos Revolucionarios pays homage to the street art of Santa Ana, specifically the influence of the 20th century Mexican Renaissance on the cityscape. The impact of this artistic movement's murals are reflected in many murals in Santa Ana, which in turn inspired Eine to create his as a commemoration of this aspect of Santa Ana's aesthetic. However, before it was finished the news of Eine's upcoming mural created controversy amongst local muralists. Those who disapproved of Eine took issue with the fact that a famous artist with no ties to the local community or even Santa Ana was invading their space and creating a work without any ties to the area. In the end though, Eine finished the mural without any notable setbacks. Sources 1. Dayna Drum, "Street artist’s murals reflect local cities’ vibe," The Orange County Register, September 5, 2015.
