Fourth and Broadway

Fourth Street and Broadway lies in a major commercial area of Santa Ana and Orange County. As the central business area of Downtown Santa Ana, it has been cited by a Spanish-only newspaper as having the slogan “Made in Mexico.”

The intersection is also within walking distance of the Santa Ana Courthouse, the site of several famous court cases in Orange County, as well as the Yost Theater, which remains one of the oldest, largest and most versatile venues for entertainment. As a major commercial area of the city, the location of Fourth Street and Broadway is a prime location for public art, such as the utility box mural We Are Santa Ana.

We Are Santa Ana

We Are Santa Ana features a unique artistic medium compared to other utility box or wall murals, as it was created with photography and digital editing rather than paints and brushes. Featuring photographs of various residents of Santa Ana side by side, especially Latino and white residents, We Are Santa Ana speaks a message of unity and community in the wake of a divisive tragedy. However, unlike other local murals, this project does not directly address the tragedy that inspired it, but instead creates an image representing a harmonious, united future. Sources: 1.
